Savannah Guthrie Tries to Recruit Tom Hanks for Today—His Answer? A Firm No!
During a recent appearance on Today, legendary actor Tom Hanks had an unexpected career opportunity presented to him—co-anchoring the show alongside Savannah Guthrie. But the Forrest Gump star wasted no time shutting down the idea.
While discussing his latest projects, Guthrie, 53, playfully asked the Hollywood icon if he would ever consider stepping in as a Today co-host.
“Wouldn’t that be great?” Hanks mused before immediately dismissing the idea, adding, “I’m not waking up that early, lady.”
Guthrie, refusing to back down, tried to win him over.
“Come on!” she urged, but Hanks wasn’t having it.
“And I am definitely not reading all that research,” he added, making it clear that the preparation involved was not appealing to him.
Hanks Throws a Curveball—But on His Own Terms
Even after Hanks turned down the offer, Guthrie tried to negotiate, suggesting he could host for just one day instead.
“We’ll do it as a fun bit,” she proposed.
That’s when Hanks unexpectedly flipped the script.
“No, I’m sorry. If I do it, it has to be for the whole week,” he declared.
Guthrie didn’t hesitate, immediately agreeing.
“Done! Twist my arm,” she responded with enthusiasm.
Hanks, always the entertainer, then jokingly warned, “By the way, I will be very cranky by Friday.”
Savannah Guthrie laughed, reassuring him, “Your cranky is still better than most people’s best day.”
Hanks agreed, adding, “I have to say, when I’m cranky, I’m pretty damn hilarious.”
