Scottie Scheffler ‘erupts’ at caddie Ted Scott during tense round: His harsh scolding is the ‘final straw’ for internal team fractures

Scottie Scheffler Snaps at Caddie Ted Scott During Heated Round—Is This the Breaking Point for Their Partnership?

Scottie Scheffler’s tense exchange with caddie Ted Scott has raised eyebrows, fueling speculation about cracks in their seemingly solid partnership. Could this be the moment that signals a deeper divide?

Scottie Scheffler’s Caddie Initially Hesitated to Work With Him Due to His Temper

Scottie Scheffler has cemented himself as one of the most dominant golfers in the world, securing multiple PGA Tour victories, two Masters titles, and even an Olympic gold medal. However, a recent heated on-course exchange with his longtime caddie, Ted Scott, has sparked speculation that tensions within his team may be reaching a breaking point.

Scott, a veteran caddie best known for guiding Bubba Watson to two Masters victories, joined forces with Scheffler in 2021. Their collaboration proved instantly successful, with Scheffler racking up four PGA Tour wins within six months and quickly climbing to World No. 1.

However, it turns out that Scott had serious doubts about teaming up with Scheffler in the first place—largely due to the young golfer’s well-documented temper.

Ted Scott’s Initial Concerns: “I Wasn’t Sure I Wanted to Work With Him”

Speaking in the latest season of Netflix’s ‘Full Swing,’ Scott revealed that he almost turned down the opportunity to caddie for Scheffler after witnessing his fiery on-course demeanor.

“I had just split with Bubba Watson in 2021, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep caddying,” Scott admitted. “Then a friend told me, ‘You’re about to get a call from an incredibly talented player.’”

Scott explained that while he had briefly played with Scheffler during a tournament in New Orleans, he was concerned about the young star’s frustration and short temper.

“I told Scottie, ‘I don’t know if I want to work for you because of your attitude.’”

Scott was surprised by Scheffler’s response.

“He told me, ‘That’s a fair question, and it’s something I’m willing to work on.’”

That moment was enough to convince Scott to take a chance on the rising star, and the two have since built an incredibly successful partnership.

Scheffler Acknowledges His Past Struggles With Anger

Scheffler himself has admitted that his mental approach to the game needed work, particularly when it came to handling frustration on the greens.

“I used to fight anger issues,” Scheffler shared in the documentary. “I let golf define me, and when things didn’t go my way, I would get too frustrated. My putting struggles only made things worse.”

While he insists he has made significant improvements, his recent outburst at Scott during a tournament round suggests that old habits may still linger.

A Partnership Built on Success—but Is It Now Cracking?

Despite the occasional tension, Scheffler and Scott’s partnership has been incredibly lucrative. In 2024 alone, Scott reportedly earned around $5 million from his share of Scheffler’s tournament winnings.

However, the latest on-course confrontation has fans wondering whether their dynamic is beginning to fray. While disagreements between golfers and their caddies aren’t uncommon, publicly snapping at a trusted partner could signal deeper frustrations beneath the surface.

Is this just a moment of pressure getting the best of Scheffler, or is his temper once again becoming an issue that could threaten his dominance on the tour?

With more high-stakes tournaments on the horizon, all eyes will be on the World No. 1 to see how he handles the mounting pressure—and whether his partnership with Scott remains intact.
