Scottie Scheffler Admits Feeling ‘Terrible’ About His Ranking—Can Yoga Be the Key to His Comeback?

Scottie Scheffler is frustrated with his current ranking after a tough performance at the Genesis Invitational. Could his unexpected foray into yoga help him regain his form and confidence?

Scheffler Struggles with Form After Injury Layoff

Scottie Scheffler wrapped up the 2025 Genesis Invitational with a final-round 66, finishing T3 in the event. However, despite his strong Sunday performance, the world No. 1 admitted he feels far from his best.

The American golfer was forced to miss multiple tournaments after undergoing surgery on his right hand during the holiday season. While his return to competition has been solid, he hasn’t quite met the high standards he sets for himself.

Throughout the tournament, Scheffler had difficulty with his tee shots and approach play—particularly in Rounds 2 and 3. Uncharacteristically, he also lost strokes on approach shots in Rounds 2 and 4, a rare occurrence that had only happened twice in all of 2024.

His third round (76, +4) at Torrey Pines marked his worst round since The Players Championship in 2022. Out of 212 official rounds played since then, this was only the second time this season he had finished over par. Yet, despite the struggles, Scheffler remained optimistic.

Finding Positivity in the Struggles

After his difficult third round, Scheffler had a conversation with his doctor, Marnus, about his performance. Rather than focusing on his mistakes, he noted a key shift in mindset:

“Marnus asked me how I felt about my round. I told him, ‘Honestly, I felt better today than yesterday.’ I tried to keep a positive attitude, even though I was falling behind,” Scheffler said. “I think I pushed too hard trying to make up ground early on. I definitely paid for that on the back nine, but overall, I felt like I gave myself chances. I just didn’t capitalize on them.”

On Sunday, Scheffler rebounded in a big way, cutting 10 strokes off his previous round and making a charge up the leaderboard. His final round included some spectacular moments, such as a chip-in birdie on the 5th hole and a sandy birdie at the 15th. He made five birdies on the front nine, pulling within one shot of the lead. However, bogeys on holes 11 and 16 ultimately kept him from a potential victory.

“On the back nine, I felt like I had more opportunities,” Scheffler admitted. “Even though I wasn’t at my best this week, I fought hard and put myself in contention. If I had minimized some of the mistakes, things could have turned out differently.”

A New Approach: Can Yoga Help?

At this time last year, Scheffler had yet to win a tournament before going on a dominant run, securing seven PGA Tour titles throughout the season. Although frustrated by his recent results, he has still demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level—even when not at his peak.

Looking ahead, Scheffler remains focused on defending his titles at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. He is also considering adding more tournaments to his schedule, possibly including the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he finished runner-up last year before going on to defend his Masters title.

To help improve his flexibility and mental focus, Scheffler has turned to yoga, a method that several top athletes have used to enhance their game.

“I’m trying to be patient with myself as I get back into a rhythm,” he said. “Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen progress, and there are areas I know I can improve.”

What’s Next for Scottie Scheffler?

Scheffler is set to take a two-week break before returning to action at the Arnold Palmer Invitational from March 6-9 at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. Will his new approach, including yoga, help him regain his dominant form?
