“One day, I was making dinner and feeling really proud of myself,” Savannah shared in an interview. “Vale took one bite and just looked at me like, ‘Mom, this is…not great.’”

Her son Charley also doesn’t hesitate to share his thoughts. “He once told me, ‘Mom, you should just stick to reading the news,’ after I tried to help him with his math homework.”

Their playful honesty isn’t lost on Savannah, who embraces their remarks with a good sense of humor. “They keep me humble,” she said. “It’s the kind of feedback you don’t get in the newsroom, that’s for sure.”

The Sweetest Tribute: A Tattoo Inspired by Her Kids

Despite their occasional tough critiques, Savannah’s bond with her children is undeniable. In fact, her latest tattoo was inspired by them. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Savannah revealed that she got a new tattoo to celebrate her children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You.

“Drew said, ‘Do you want to get tattoos?’ I said, ‘Sure!’ And then we did it,” Savannah explained.

The tattoo, which features two tiny hearts, was designed with the help of her kids. “My little boy did one of the hearts and Vale did the other,” she said.

Her TODAY colleagues loved the sentimental ink. “It’s so great. Really pretty,” Jenna Bush Hager said, while Dylan Dreyer simply marveled, “Aww.”

This marks the second time Savannah has gotten a tattoo with Drew Barrymore. The first was in 2023, when she got a tattoo of the phrase “all my love” in her late father’s handwriting.

“It’s an exact carbon copy of my father’s handwriting,” she shared at the time. “He wrote a love letter to my mom, and this is his writing. It’s the first time in my life that I’ve had a tattoo, and I ever wanted a tattoo.”

A Friendship That Comes With Jealousy?

Savannah’s tattoo moment with Drew Barrymore left one of her closest friends feeling a little left out. Jenna Bush Hager, her co-host and best friend, joked that she needed to make a statement of her own.

“I just got another piercing with Scarlett Johansson,” Jenna quipped, pretending to call the actress to brag.

Johansson recently co-hosted TODAY with Jenna & Friends and even got an ear piercing with Jenna live on air.

“She’s so mad,” Savannah joked in response to Jenna’s playful jealousy.
