Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie Prove Their Friendship Is Still Going Strong
They may no longer be starting their mornings together on Today, but Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are still making time for each other—especially when it matters most.
Hoda, who left Today in January, made a surprise appearance at Savannah’s book signing on February 25 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The event was for Savannah’s new children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You, and her longtime co-host’s unexpected visit left her completely stunned.
“I thought I was hallucinating,” Savannah admitted on the February 26 episode of Today. “It made me feel so good.”
She continued, “It was just amazing. It’s so, so sweet and so, so her.”

Hoda’s Surprise Visit Leaves Savannah in Shock
Hoda documented her entire journey to the book signing on Instagram, sharing a series of videos leading up to the big reveal.
“The secret plot to surprise @savannahguthrie at her book signing event in Ridgewood, New Jersey….” she captioned the clips.
In the first video, Hoda hides her face behind a copy of Savannah’s book. In the next, she films the excited crowd waiting for Savannah to arrive. Finally, in the third clip, the audience erupts in cheers as Savannah walks down the stairs, completely unaware that Hoda is right there, hiding behind the book.
As Savannah approaches her signing table, Hoda suddenly steps forward.
“Can I be first?” she asks, as Savannah gasps in disbelief.
The crowd bursts into applause as the two embrace in a long, emotional hug.
“I love you,” Hoda says repeatedly.
Savannah, still in shock, replies, “I’m dying. I cannot believe this. What, are you even real?”
Hoda then turns to the crowd and says, “Let me tell you what this girl has done ever since I’ve known her—she shows up for people.”
Savannah quickly responds, “So do you.”
“I showed up for you!” Hoda adds, beaming.
A Friendship That Goes Beyond the Today Studio
Savannah later shared photos of the emotional moment on Instagram in a joint post with Hoda.
“Happiness is… your friend surprising—no, SHOCKING you—by showing up at your book event. @hodakotb, there is just no one like you. My biggest cheerleader from beginning to end 💛💛💛,” she captioned the post.
Jenna Bush Hager, who co-hosted Today with Hoda & Jenna before Hoda’s departure, was among the many touched by the moment.
“In tears ❤️,” Jenna commented.
This isn’t the first time Hoda and Savannah have reunited since Hoda’s exit from Today. Earlier this month, the two friends even crossed paths while on separate family vacations in Palm Beach, Florida.
Savannah posted a sun-kissed selfie of them together, captioning it, “Oh, and a bonus @hodakotb sighting for a little extra ☀️.”
