Mel Gibson Blasts California and Los Angeles Leaders, Calling Them “Murderers” and Presenting Damning Evidence: “Negligence? Absolutely.”

Mel Gibson takes a strong stand against California’s leadership, accusing Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass of catastrophic mismanagement in the wake of devastating wildfires.

Mel Gibson Calls Out State and City Leaders Over Wildfire Mismanagement

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has publicly criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, holding them responsible for the destruction caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires. Speaking at a press conference in Altadena, he joined the Saving California initiative, supporting efforts to recall Newsom over what he called gross negligence and mismanagement.

“We deserve better—so much better. And there is no valid excuse for the governor or the mayor to justify their failure to act when they knew what was coming,” Gibson stated.

The Palisades and Eaton fires left thousands of homes and businesses in ruins, and tragically claimed 29 lives. Gibson, who lost his home in the disaster, did not hold back in his condemnation of state leadership.

“Was it incompetence? Was it indifference? Complacency? Carelessness? Was it negligence? Absolutely.”

Federal Investigation Demanded Over California’s Crisis

Gibson argued that before California receives federal aid, a comprehensive investigation should be conducted. With tens of thousands of acres burned and thousands of families displaced, he insists that leaders must be held accountable.

According to Cal Fire:

  • The Palisades Fire consumed 23,448 acres, destroying 6,833 homes and businesses.
  • The Eaton Fire burned 14,021 acres, with 9,418 properties lost.

The widespread devastation has deepened public frustration with California’s wildfire response, with critics—including Gibson—pointing to lack of preparedness and failed policies as contributing factors.

Why Mel Gibson Refuses to Leave California

During an interview on Hannity in January, Gibson explained why, despite the mass exodus of celebrities from California, he chooses to stay and fight for change.

“A lot of people have left—I don’t blame them. Even those who were liberal realized it wasn’t working for them anymore. But if everyone leaves, then what happens?” he questioned.

His comments came as Fox News host Sean Hannity revealed that he had left New York due to rising crime, excessive taxes, and burdensome regulations. Gibson agreed that many Hollywood elites had fled for similar reasons but remained hopeful that California could still be saved.

“People are going elsewhere because it’s more cost-effective. There are too many restrictive regulations. But I believe the situation can be turned around.”

Gibson’s Role as a Hollywood Ambassador Under Trump

Gibson was recently named a special Hollywood ambassador by President Donald Trump, alongside actors Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone. Their mission? To revitalize the entertainment industry and fight against policies that drive productions out of California.

Gibson has already outlined his focus areas, particularly on Hollywood tax incentives, which he believes are currently ineffective under Newsom’s policies.

“Newsom introduced tax incentives, but it’s clearly not enough because the industry is still struggling. Something has to change.”

With Trump promising swift action, Gibson is set to work with fellow Hollywood envoys to develop a plan for industry reform.
