Joy Behar Shakes as She Recalls the Moment She Nearly Died—And It Was All Because of Her “Unborn Child”

Joy Behar opens up about a terrifying medical crisis that nearly took her life. The View host recalls the moment doctors told her, “We almost lost you.”
Joy Behar Reveals Near-Death Experience Due to Ectopic Pregnancy
As the only remaining original co-host of The View since its debut in 1997, Joy Behar has never been shy about expressing her opinions or sharing personal moments with the audience. But in a recent episode, she got more personal than ever, revealing a harrowing medical emergency that nearly ended her life.

During a discussion about Kansas’ recent decision to uphold abortion rights and the continued national debate following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Behar, 81, shared her own life-threatening experience—one that emphasized the importance of access to reproductive healthcare.
“In 1979, I had an ectopic pregnancy,” Behar revealed, before adding a shocking detail: “I almost died.”

Behar Explains the Dangers of Ectopic Pregnancy
Behar went on to describe just how dangerous an ectopic pregnancy is, explaining that in these cases, the fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus.

“The fetus is growing in the fallopian tube,” she said, clarifying that an ectopic pregnancy is never viable and can have fatal consequences if left untreated.
“You can’t give birth from your fallopian tube, and the fetus will not survive. It grows just enough to make the tube burst. When that happens, you start bleeding internally—and then you die.”
Her co-hosts listened in stunned silence as she recounted her terrifying ordeal.
