Jenna Bush Hager Finally Unveils Her Secret White House Codename—The Unexpected Truth About How the Secret Service Kept Tabs on Her!
Jenna Bush Hager Opens Up About Life in the White House and the Adorable Codename She Was Given by the Secret Service
From 2001 to 2009, Today co-host Jenna Bush Hager called the White House home while her father, George W. Bush, served two terms as President of the United States. As you’d expect, those years left her with plenty of fascinating stories—including one about her very own Secret Service codename.
During a 2020 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Jenna revealed one of Washington D.C.’s little-known details: the alias assigned to her by the Secret Service.
Just like other high-profile individuals under the agency’s protection, Jenna was given a unique codename for security purposes, used exclusively over radio frequencies. And hers? It was surprisingly sweet.
“My codename was Twinkle,” she told Andy Cohen with a smile. “I choose to take that as a compliment.”
The nickname resurfaced years later in an unexpected way—this time, in front of her colleagues.
“When the Today show team visited the White House, we walked in and the security guys said, ‘Twinkle, welcome home,’” Jenna recalled. “Everyone turned to me like, ‘Wait… Twinkle?!’”
But she wasn’t the only one in her family with a charming alias. Her twin sister, Barbara, was assigned the codename Turquoise.
