Kat Timpf Discovers Cancer Hours Before Childbirth
Fox News Gutfeld! panelist Kat Timpf, 36, recently opened up about a deeply emotional experience—learning she had breast cancer just before welcoming her first child. In a post shared on Instagram and X on Tuesday, February 25, she revealed that she and her husband, Cameron Friscia, became parents mere hours after she received the devastating diagnosis.
Calling it an “unconventional birth announcement,” Timpf wrote, “Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before going into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
A Tough Diagnosis and a Major Decision
Timpf disclosed that her doctor diagnosed her with Stage 0 breast cancer, which is the earliest and most treatable stage of the disease. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Stage 0 means the cancer has not spread beyond its original location and is highly manageable when caught early.

Despite this, the news was overwhelming. “I woke up that morning, more than a week overdue, focused entirely on doing everything possible to go into labor,” she shared. “By mid-afternoon, I was going from one appointment to another, discussing how to remove my cancer instead.”
During these consultations, doctors advised her that the most effective course of action would likely be a double mastectomy as soon as possible.
Adapting to a New Reality
Although her diagnosis brought an unexpected emotional burden, Timpf maintained her sense of humor and expressed gratitude for the medical staff. “Just minutes after my son was born, I was joking with the nurses about what a birth announcement in my situation might look like,” she wrote.
Her maternity leave, however, will be vastly different from what she had initially envisioned. “The next three months are going to look a lot different than I had anticipated,” she admitted. Nevertheless, she remains thankful. “As I navigate both new motherhood and new cancer, I’m learning to appreciate every moment. I’m lucky we caught the cancer early. I’m lucky to be my son’s mom.”
She also acknowledged how her baby has been a source of light in this challenging time. “I know I’m biased, but my little guy is absolutely incredible—and he might have even saved my life.”
Kat Timpf is facing this unexpected challenge with courage, humor, and resilience. She ended her post by expressing appreciation for the outpouring of support and shared an uplifting message: “Here’s to resilience, to miracles in the midst of chaos, and to finding humor and hope even on the hardest days.”
