Charley Hull’s HSBC Meltdown Caps Off a Turbulent Week—Personal Struggles Are Taking a Toll on Her Game!

A Promising Start Turns Into a Frustrating Finish
Charley Hull appeared to be in contention for a strong finish at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore, playing in the final group alongside Lydia Ko and Jeeno Thitikul. But despite early hopes, Hull’s round quickly unraveled.
After carding two bogeys in the first seven holes, the English golfer found herself slipping out of the mix. She closed with a disappointing 74, dropping her into a tie for fourth place—six shots behind Ko, who went on to claim victory. Hull’s struggles were evident in her accuracy, hitting just seven fairways and needing 33 putts to complete her final round.
Following her tough finish, Hull took to Instagram to share her thoughts:
“Not the finish I wanted today, but as always, a fantastic event at HSBC. Thanks for all the great local support. Always a pleasure to play with Lydia Ko—congrats on another impressive win.”

Battling More Than Just the Course
Hull’s rocky performance wasn’t just about her golf game—she had already endured a physically and emotionally draining week.
On Saturday morning, Hull revealed she had been feeling unwell, even throwing up before managing to push through with a personal-best 5K run and a stellar, bogey-free 68. That round put her just one shot behind Ko heading into the final day.

Despite the setback on Sunday, Ko had nothing but praise for Hull’s skill, calling her one of the best ball-strikers on the LPGA Tour.
“She’s one of those players I’ve known since we were 15, 16. To see how much we’ve both grown as golfers and as people—it’s exciting,” Ko said.
Stepping Away From Competition—But Will It Help?
Following her exhausting week in Singapore, Hull has decided to skip the next LPGA event in China to return home for a family event—her oldest nephew’s wedding. While the break may offer her a chance to reset, it also raises questions about whether the personal turmoil she’s facing is impacting her mental game.
With Hull’s fiery playing style and fearless approach, she remains one of the most exciting players to watch—but can she regain her focus and bounce back stronger?
