Phil Foden has penned a new long-term deal with Man City as he commits his future to Pep Guardiola’s side after winning the Premier League on four occasions
Man City have confirmed that Phil Foden has signed a new five-year contract.
The 22-year-old has been in sensational form this season and Man City have rewarded him with a long-term deal which makes him one of the highest earners at the club.
Foden’s deal had been due to expire in 2024, but he will now remain at the Etihad Stadium for an additional three years as he looks to add to his already-stacked trophy cabinet. He has won the Premier League four times during his time at his boyhood club so far, while also lifting the EFL Cup on three occasions.
The England international is expected to earn around £225,000 in wages – over five times more than he was previously on. Foden, who was earning just £40,000 per-week, has become the fifth-highest paid player at City behind the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.
With seven goals already to his name this season, Foden has expressed his delight at having agreed to new terms. He said: “It’s hard to put into words how happy I am to have signed this contract.
“I have been a Man City fan all my life. I’ve trained here for so many years and I’ve even been a ballboy. I love this club so much, so to know I am going to be a part of it until 2027 feels amazing.
“With the squad we have here, I feel I can keep learning and winning trophies. Those are the two most important things to me. It’s an honour to be part of this football club.”

Having made his City debut in 2017, Foden has gone on to become one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players at the forefront of their attacking department. Foden was integrated slowly into Guardiola’s starting XI, and it was a strategy that criticised to start with.
But Foden has gained more minutes as the years have progressed, heavily featuring as City recorded their third title in four seasons during the Covid-19 hit 2020/21 campaign. He scored a career-best nine Premier League goals, while he also grabbed five assists in 28 matches.
It was enough to earn Foden the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, while he was also named in the Champions League Team of the Season for his efforts, although City crashed out in the quarter-finals at the hands of Ligue 1 side Lyon. This was Foden’s proper breakout season and his numbers signalled intent he wouldn’t stop there.
Foden continued to improve and helped Man City to yet another title last season as the Sky Blues pipped Liverpool on the final day. The Stockport-born playmaker claimed the Young Player of the Season for the second successive campaign thanks to another impressive campaign in which he scored 14 goals in all competitions – two fewer than 20/21.
It seems as though Foden has taken his game to a different level this season, and the arrival of Haaland has no doubt helped. He recently scored his first Man City hat-trick in the Manchester derby and has already chipped in with seven goals in 13 matches.
