Al Roker Teases Today’s New Wellness App Featuring a Soon-to-Be “Former Colleague”. Al Roker introduces Today’s latest project, a wellness app with exercise, nutrition, and inspiration tips—plus a surprising connection to Hoda Kotb’s upcoming departure.
Al Roker Introduces Today’s Wellness App
Beloved Today show weatherman Al Roker, 70, has shared details about the morning show’s exciting new venture: a wellness app designed to bring fitness, nutrition, and inspiration to users’ fingertips.
Speaking to Variety on January 7, Roker joked, “I come from an age when an ‘app’ was an appetizer—not something you downloaded on your phone.”
The app, called Start Today, marks a new chapter for the Today show. It aims to extend the brand beyond television and into viewers’ daily lives by providing trusted wellness advice from experts.
“If you want fitness, nutrition, or inspiration, we have it all in one place,” NBC News executive vice president Libby Leist explained.

Hoda Kotb’s Involvement—And Upcoming Departure
Interestingly, this new project coincides with longtime co-anchor Hoda Kotb’s upcoming retirement from Today. Kotb, 60, announced in October that she’ll be stepping away after 25 years with NBC.
But Kotb isn’t stepping out of the spotlight entirely. She’s been quietly developing her own wellness brand, which includes an app, retreats, and a podcast. On January 6, during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kotb described her vision:
“This isn’t just about having fun—it’s about transformation. When you leave, you’ll feel different, empowered, and ready to take on the world.”
Her app’s overlap with Today’s Start Today project adds an intriguing twist to her departure.
