Al Roker Raises Concern After Fans Notice Leg Bandage in New Video. Al Roker Sparks Concern With Visible Leg Patch in Workout Video. Al Roker’s latest social media post has left fans worried after they noticed something unusual about his knee.
The Today show meteorologist shared a video on Instagram on Monday, Feb. 24, showcasing a “quick 10-minute workout” to encourage his followers. However, rather than focusing on the exercises, many fans were distracted by a noticeable rectangular patch on his knee.
Fans Express Concern
Roker performed basic movements, including heel lifts, leg bends, bicep curls, and knee taps. He captioned the post by reminding viewers that “something is better than nothing” and explaining his goal of strengthening the muscles around his knees.
While many thanked him for his motivation, others questioned the presence of the patch:
- “Why is Al wearing a patch? Hope he’s okay. 💜”
- “Blessings, Al! What happened to your knee? Be careful. 🙌🏽”
- “I had a knee replacement and still struggle with strength. Did you get a cortisone shot?”
- “I wear those patches too—both knees. I still can’t walk properly after a year.”

A History of Knee Surgeries
Roker has been open about his past knee replacement surgeries. In May 2023, he discussed his recovery challenges on Today after undergoing another procedure.
“This one has been the toughest,” he admitted. “They had to remove the old knee, which had complications, and replace it with a new one.”
During the segment, Roker shared an X-ray image and explained the complexity of his surgery: “It extends into the femur, down to the tibia, and there’s a hinge in between. They removed the old hardware and added new components, including a titanium cone for bone growth.”
The Struggles of Recovery
According to Roker, the hardest part of healing was being forced to stay off his leg.
“I felt great at first because the nerve block hadn’t worn off, so I started cooking. But then my doctor saw my Instagram and told me, ‘No, you need to rest.’”
He emphasized that recovery required patience, including staying off his feet, icing the knee, elevating it, and committing to physical therapy.
